How do you know who you should follow or learn from as a mentor?
The answer to that question is simply “it depends”. Because it all depends on what the ‘next thing’ is that you need to learn. For example, are you currently a technician in your business doing everything from the service itself all the way to marketing, hiring and firing as well as making sure the accounting is right? Then really all you should be learning is the first stage of automating your business and becoming a marketer of your own business. From there you should then learn to become the manager where you can start to offload most of the day to day work and processes, even the product or service delivery to other members of your team which leaves you in a great position to focus on growing the business instead of just operating it.
Really the only mentor’s you need that can stay consistent in your growth are people who have already been on the journey you are on, the chances are they already know the problems or challenges you’re likely to face on your journey and can help you shortcut them to success faster. Motivational and inspirational content is useful for getting your mind in the right place to act, but make sure you don’t end up with “paralysis by analysis”, where you spend so much time consuming content and not enough time actually doing the things you need to get done.
Remember, everything you want is on the other side of the things you’ve been putting off doing.
