This is the thing that is so often overlooked…in a perfect world we wouldn't need borders. This is not a perfect world. Immigration that on balance does not seriously burden a countries existing culture/citizenship/identity is a good thing. What the liberals either don't understand or don't want the public to understand is that when there is a flood of more than the country can assimilate and a large percentage does not want to be assimilated (or want to destroy the existing culture) then that is a huge problem. When you stack criminal and political opportunism on top of that you have a virtually existential problem.

i can understand where Dalai Lama is coming from, especially when i take into consideration his way of life and beliefs. if you have a wandering spirit (i.e. you want to leave the place where you called home) then you are expressing dissatisfaction with what life/the universe presented to you at birth; this is how colonialism began. Austerity is about being satisfied with what is given and to make the most of it, rather an seeking what one does not have. there's nothing inherently "wrong" about wanting to move to another country, but there is something troubling about a mass exodus of an entire population/culture relocating into another culture's borders. i believe THIS is why the Dalai Lama is laughing at her line of questioning.

i used to think of myself as progressive because i'm DEF not conservative. but now i realized that progressives can be just as antagonizing and misled by their own emotions. there is no more compromise between the two groups; it's just become a competition of who can be angrier at or meaner to the other side
So european countries are allowed to loot, kill and colonise other countries but peoples from other countries are not allowed to spend a normal and peaceful life in their country.

I've always felt no country is obligated to take in refugees. But let's not pretend like we don't have a hand in creating those refugees and/or funding those who do. The LEAST any advocate of "free speech" could do is give equal recognition to both sides of the equation.
