He worked as a radio station program director, newspaper managing editor, and in marketing and public relations. He survived a car accident that left him with a broken neck. Once he recovered from a car accident, he was alone, unemployed, and forced to live in a tent. He began his writings after working his way out of homelessness. His first book, Conversations with God, was published in 1995 and became an international bestseller. He has published 29 books and his works have been translated into 37 languages. Six of his other books have made the Times list. In addition to the CwG series, he also published a number of guidebooks, meditation, and other books.

In this wage-slave paradigm, we often identify who we are with what we do for a paycheck. To me, this is the saddest thing about this species wrongly called "human". I work at a hospital and this is extremely prevalent with the doctors and nurses. So much so with the doctors that they have given up their titles as "Mister" and "Missus" and traded them in for "Doctor". It's like method acting. They are no longer "human". They are doctors. That's not what they do, that's what they *are*. It's pathetic. Boy are they in for a big surprise.
