No Dali Lama isn't a bad idea. They were brutal oppressive leaders. No different than the horrible Chinese government.

Seems like choosing an incredibly influential leader, who is not at all apolitical, based on a child supposedly recognizing some items, might be something the Chinese government would want to stop in the best interests of the people who would otherwise have to live under this kind of nonsense rule.
"Dalai" means ocean in Mongolian while "Lama" means Guru or teacher in Tibetan. The title was conferred upon by Altan Khan who was patron to Sonam Gyatso, the third Dalai Lama.

The Dalai Lama replied back to China by saying that if they really believe in Buddhism and reincarnation then "Look for the reincarnation of Mao Tsetung and Deng Xiaoping instead of me".
He has given not speech at the UN obviously due to the Chinese and communist block and indifference of the world.

There's a history behind the Dalai Lama movement, it's power base and it's not pretty one despite the humble persona he puts on while in exile. As predicted you conveniently ignored the often barbaric treatment his family exacted on the poor peasants they ruled over.

That's has to do with the United front that as long as u recognise the leadership of the CCP they give u a seat
Now that he doesn't want the institution to be used or control by the party he just ended it all together
Which is pretty funny when a nominally athiest and materialistic party had to come out and say they decide whether reincarnation is a thing
