Is there such a thing as a favorite button to watch when ever you need a reason to question your spiritual thoughts
i like how Rhett basically got clickbaited into learning the evidence for evolution lmao
I loved this episode! ♥️👍🏻 I SOOooo relate to Rhett’s journey. I’m amazed how similar a Christian Baptist’s faith crisis and deconstruction is to mine, an LDS Mormon (we’re around the same ages AND served missions for our churches too).
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. I John 2:19
So, organized religion (any) and; critical thinking, reason, honest historical research, scientific paradigm, unemotionally based moral and philosophical platforms are diametrically opposed and cannot exist together without serious cognitive dissonance, which in my opinion, Rhett & Link's experience shows. Welcome friends, and let me say, that I'm truly sorry for the pain and process to extract from that indoctrination into fundamentalist Christianity brought you both. 💖
personally a lot of things you're saying were the exact same for me, and one of the biggest things was that religion was originally created as a way of explaining the previously unexplainable
"An encounter with God that sends you to a new place or all the way back… then so be it."
I think it takes humility to say what Rhett has, perhaps pride as well, but when he says "or all the way back," I believe that shows even greater humility because he is not crossing out his past faith. Someone who is truly open does just that. Hope you find Truth. It isn't relative, and it is out there.
Honestly I would listen/watch a podcast 3-4 hours long if it's from this two guys, they're amazing, not only with the comedy, they're really really good in a lot of things, and I love the way they think
I left the church years ago but have only recently started processing my life and everything that has happened to me – this is a beautifully sad honest look at what so many people have gone through
Study the Bible With Jehovah’s Witnesses
I feel such fondness towards them watching this. My religious beliefs were less extreme (we didn't talk about evolution or young earth, I just assumed science and religion could coexist or that the bible was metaphorical), but abandoning faith was and still is very hard. lots of christian guilt. This makes me feel less alone
“They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.”
1 John 2:19
Thank you so much for sharing your story Rhett!! I’ve never been religious, and a lot of your research lined up with how I’ve felt about things as well. I wish you all the peace of mind moving forward with your journey to an open and curious life!
This is powerful. Respect.
39:15 This moment is important to note. Many comments have said that California and Los Angeles changed them… but Rhett clearly states he was still in North Carolina during the middle of his deconstruction.
i love how much time, work and effort they put into this, i’m really proud of them for sharing their stories ❤️
This is incredible. I have a story That is Similar. I was an evangelical and am an atheist now. Much love and appreciation sent your way!!!
When I was younger the thought of being atheist scared me so much. I have to agree though, that after finally realizing and coming to terms with the fact I was, was one of the most liberating moments of my life.
My story is pretty much identical man
UGH, religion.
Now I do t want to start a war but why are you letting your faith being deconstructed. Faith in my eyes has nothing to do with worldly things. Its about loving god and as a christian it's not our jobs to judge or hate or discriminate anyone. As a Christian as a believer in God it's all about loving everyone whether they are gay, straight, pansexual or w.e it doesnt matter, as long as you love everyone that's what God wants and if you really believe than you would understand that and not give up your faith. The bible teaches love so if you believe you should hate someone because of your faith, you are doing the whole god and christian thing wrong man. It's all about loving God and loving the people around you.
So amazing you are both amazing! Moved over to Spotify to finish listening. I’m a fellow exevangelist and deconstruction is hard. If anyone is going through this find a good Facebook group and speak to like minded folks.
I grew up Catholic. Became a hardcore atheist because of hypocrisy, believed in science and philosophy, and God redeemed me at 19. It’s been 5 year journey so far and I love My God. Do I have doubts? Of course. The word of God shows many people doubted God when he was here. Doubting is part of our being. We will doubt and it’s healthy. If we search for answers God will answer one way somehow. But that’s my experience.
I'm an apostate so, I've been looking forward to listening to this. I've been putting it off for some reason, and I decided to watch the video instead of listening to it on Spotify.
