Ram Dass speaks on balancing the many levels of consciousness. As you evolve spiritually, you become more awake during your incarnation. As you die, you can merge into the Oneness or you can push against the final merge and stay in form. Why would you stay in form? Not because your personal desires any longer, but because of the suffering of all sentient beings. That’s what a guru is. It’s a being who is staying in form in order to relieve the suffering of other living beings. The final realization is that the entire of evolution was an illusion. At that moment, path, pilgrim, and goal merge into one. When Buddha says you are already enlightened, the entire Sadhana path is to awake you out of your illusion of separateness. Nobody teaches you anything. They merely remind you. What you are seeking is not outside of you. Ram Dass is not attached to who he thinks he is. Meditation helps you transcend your models of you who are in order to recognize yourself.
