In this recording, from the summer of 1989, Ram Dass responds to questions dealing broadly with attachment and addiction. Throughout the Q&A he covers a myriad of different concepts including guilt, desire, co-dependency, intimacy, the root causes of negative behaviors, and the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Joshua Serino says:

A little honesty here. Incarnation is rough. I mean, what's the point? I find myself circling back to this question over and over. You take birth only to feel good for about 30 years if you're lucky, then your body starts decaying right before your eyes. You are faced with many challenges, physical, mental, and spiritual. And that's an average life. What about people who die horrific deaths at the hands of serial killers or genocide? You've got an old woman dying a torturous death thrown side by side with a young couple reaching orgasm. What the actual f*ck is going on here? Anyone ever get quiet and ask this question? Is this human life just an experiment? 🤔

Joshua Serino says:

Here's my dilemma. I've known since I was a boy that the whole universe is in flux. There is no foundation. Nothing to grab on to. No security. I am keenly aware of the truth of impermanence, but instead of peace it causes me much distress. How does impermanence give you peace? If you know that nothing is solid, doesn't it drive you mad? It does me. I can't sleep. I can't rest. Always on the defensive.
