The teachings of Buddha and this man are worth more than Jesus could even
dream! No offense.
Nostalgia Critic brought me here, I’m thankful.
The Dalai Lama – Compassion is not a Sign of Weakness
The closest i can relate to this topic is the feeling i get when i play
games that give you a choice you know (good, bad, neutral ) and i find
myself almost always inclined to do the good choice because the good choice
is the only one with a for sure reward … i accept the quest because by
doing so i get the ex and money. I don’t threaten or kill the guy because
theirs no reward in that. Now i think that’s more bad gameplay design that
i can find even in games like Dragon Age which has wonderful story telling
aspect to it. But I also find when both opinion are given a equal reward
like in Kotor when you can choose to do the quest and earn a reward or just
mind trick the guy to give you all his money and get experience that i find
myself drawn to those choices. Now i ask you does that make me a bad
person? Is the desire to always choose the choice that will benefit me
whether its helping others or just helping myself make me inherently a bad
person who lacks true compassion ?
Doug Walker brought me here.
That Guy with the Glasses, anyone?
That lady who gave the introduction speech during the first 2 1/2 minutes
of this video is a really amazing woman with a great sense of persuasion, a
big heart, and plus she’s a real cutie. And she’s exactly right too. As far
as I’m concerned, she’s the ideal woman, a wonderful combination of beauty,
brains, and heart. Not to take anything away from the rest of the video but
that was about the best introduction a video could have.
I love how she also admits she’s not perfect and sometimes she finds
herself thinking cynically. I think we’re all like that, myself more than
others I’ll admit. A big part of it is overexposure to sympathy ploys in
the media. I find myself perptually rolling my eyes at sob stories, even
saying “to make it big in those reality talent competitions, you have to
have some hard luck story, I’d even make one up if it meant getting ahead”.
I find myself assuming the homeless guy will just spend money I give him on
more drugs. I find myself thinking that people often deserve their
misfortunes because of bad choices they made. I find myself believing that
people who believe in stupid things deserve to be scammed out of their
money. That we’re all selfish by nature and we only pretend to care about
others because we want something from them. But I didn’t always think like
that. Seeing bad things happened has made me harden my heart into solid
granite. But I still try to not be that way. Now while I’ll never do
anything but laugh at an American Idol sob story and I’ll never pick up
hitchhikers or help someone broke down along the side of the road in a
million years, I do try to do things to benefit others, such as donating my
old clothes to charity or donate to the food bank, simply because I know
it’ll make their lives better. I’m trying to break my misanthropy habit but
it’s hard. But look at it this way, if I can relearn compassion, so can YOU!
With that said, that lady’s speech in the beginning might be the most
powerful thing I’ve heard in a long time. I would like to meet her and
shake her hand and tell her how powerful those 2 1/2 minutes were for me.
I always like listening to The Dalai Lamas talk, granted he sometimes gets
a little muddled up with words but it makes him seem even more “human” to
me. He’s a humble kind and honest person and we could all benefit from
listening to him.
Finally, this video is going to get the views it deserves. Thanks Doug.
Thank you nostalgia critic for bringing me to this xD, i am also doing this
for the people around me and everyone seems to come closer together,
becoming more closer to each other and also becoming wise quite quickly,
this indeed brings great change and i hope more people will pick this up.
I knew the Dali Lama was wise, but he’s a down to earth funny old man too.
Doug Walker sent me hear i’m glad he did.
the Nostalgia Critic also brought me here
Really too bad not more people have seen this.
Man I think I did know what compassion is but after this I think I still
have a long way to go not just to feel compassion but also to understand
compassion I still have a lot to learn not just only about compassion but
also a lot other things I really believe that I have a long way to go, any
way love the video has a good lesson and also has funny great video
NC send me to
get enlighten or something..
im a pre-op transgender ive lived not a life without compassion and
especially recently, mother has 5 years left to live my friends have left
me to fiend on my own. after hearing this i still disbelieve in the
compassion of the world. this is only one video online and it only has 2610
views. where as i can look up a video of a jumping and i guarantee it will
have more views.
the sad fact the world of today does not care about compassion? so why
fight for it, there is no point in fighting a loosing battle, idk if i will
be here or not when the comments come flooding in on this comment nor do i
care what people say i have much respect for the dalai lama and all of the
teachings he offers but its not enough any more take care every one
Why doesn’t this have more view
Nostalgia Critic anyone?
I understand what he is saying about choosing life sentences over death
sentences because it is less angry and more compassionate, but controlling
death rates is just as necessary as compassion. If no one died, we would
exhaust our resources, run out of space, and we would all die. Death is a
part of life. If we choose to keep people who cannot function in society
alive, we take resources away from people who can function in society. That
is not a perspective, but a fact of physical existence.
I guess you could say that people who don’t want your compassion are the
people who need it the most.
a bit hard to follow but awesome none the less …
What an awesome kid, maybe there is hope for the future yet :)
Simplesmente Maravilhoso!
The Dalai Lama – Compassion is not a Sign of Weakness
Wow, only 5,125 views yet 2 dislikes. I guess there is wisdom there so I
will watch and judge as all people do. It’s just our way I guess, maybe I’m
wrong. I hope I am.
the nostalgia critic had this video in one of his videos… it should’ve
gotten more views as a direct result… well the least i can do is like
this video :)
Simplesmente Maravilhoso!
The Dalai Lama – Compassion is not a Sign of Weakness

shit like What Does The Fox Say = over 80 million views
Faith in humanity lost.. again

watch unstoppable
NC told me to come here and I must obey.
Thank you, +Kate Griffiths, for the inspiration that lead me to find this
gem after a few moments of search. Dalai Lama’s deep but practical
understanding of human psychology is palpable in every moment of his
answer. I went through it again to maybe find something worth lifting out,
but the entire length is awesome.
*”Anger comes. The best part of brain, which can judge right and wrong—that
will not function properly, because too much anger really bias our mind. So
biased mind will not see objectively about the reality.”*
#Compassion is #strength . / #Anger is #weakness .
