Dalai Lama wants the Dalai Mama!
Through generations, society has accepted attractive people more so I think he meant that if the female successor is attractive, more people would be willing to listen. I don't think it was sexist of him, he was just stating a truth. Less attractive women are basically invisible in this society.

+JustKiddingNews Man you guys know anything about Buddhism. The Free Tibet Movement in the '90's, which I was aware of through Lollapalooza '94, where Tibetan monks chanted before the events began. Movies like "7 Years in Tibet" w/ Brad Pitt, and there's another 1 about the Dalai Lama's life from his childhood to his meetings w/ Mao, and his escape to India. He did this reluctantly, but to continue to help his people from the safety of India, and ended up helping a lot of other Buddhists in India, as well as westerners who sought his wisdom. Sadly, there are currently more Chinese in Tibet that native Tibetans. So like you just learned, the Dalai Lama is the leader of Tibet, but in Buddhist terms he's believed to be the reincarnation of the previous, or 1 of the previous Dalai Lamas. In Buddhism, when our current body passes away, the higher power that controls the Wheel of Life (a.k.a. God, or Brahman), depending on multiple things, will either send you back as a lower being, If you were decent person, there's a chance that you'll get to start as a human again. A child that dies by accident, or during birth, is a good candidate for this. Now if you've learned all your lessons, and there's no karmic issues, you achieve Nirvana. However, those that achieve Nirvana, are also given a second choice, which is to return to Earth as a Bodhisattva, to continue to help others get closer to attaining Nirvana, or to prevent them from falling down into a low state, like a bottom feeder, or a snail that lives which is what the Dalai Lama is. However, the Dalai Lama is a Bodhisattva, that has returned to specifically help the people of Tibet, as their leader.

I think what he meant by attractive is,healthy and young,without things like acne and rotten teeth.I did notice he did not name her ethnicity. For is she was enlightened,she would glow,she would be in perfect health.And what is more attractive than health?
what is "attractive"…? you guys are expressing a western aesthetic of the idea of "attractive"… what is the Buddhist definition or idea of "attractive?"- go deeper dudes…
Oh and, for all you guys dissing on them, not everyone knows everything about everything. They all pretty much get their information that day, so if anything, only one person has done research. I'm a former catholic covered to Buddhism. Anyone wants to quote the bible on me I'm clueless.
He could be miss interpreted in the like of being welcoming or inspirational to the faith.Kind of like the current pope is making a lot of positive hype by being open minded and reformed vs the last pope that wasn't bad but was unattractive or unappealing to his followers or the general public. I hear a lot of agnostic former Catholics start to think about revitalizing their faith due to the actions of the new pope. It could be that type of attraction or recalling of wayward Buddhist to the faith. The Dalai Lama would be loving and compassionate as a man or woman, but I think the psychological or even commercial appeal of a female with the traits of a Lama would sway wayward Buddhist and outsiders.
They don't know what the dalai lama means
I know how u guys typically broadcast the new like this. But u guys r being real ignorant. This guy has been through so much n still does so much in his life. So cut him some slack. He not a rock star , he's a spiritual leader that's been through genocide war exile witnessed systematic genocide of his people that is still continuing to this day. Show him some respect like u would show the pope , Thicht nan hanh, or Confucius. Well hopefully u see this. Peace be with u
Maybe attractive means someone who takes care of their health. Because being healthy is already attractive

I enjoy hearing their opinions on topics such as this, but they really need to do their homework before they actually attempt to talk about it. Basic things like knowing who the Dalai Lama is and his influences in the countries that he's visited is relatively simple to look up. When they come in and talk without having a clue about that person makes them look just plain dumb. Kudos to Geo for knowing what she was talking about.

Dalai Lama is actually quite fluent in English. He reads science books frequently so his knowledge in science is quite wide as well. But everyone knows Asians care the most regarding physical attractiveness.
