Accepting Your Unhappiness to Be Happy | Eckhart Tolle

It can be hard to accept your unhappiness (or, as the Buddha calls it, suffering) and not resist the present moment. Fortunately, when you accept this moment as it is, unhappiness does not last long in you. In this video, Eckhart discusses the importance of inner awareness and acceptance of the now, and goes on to explain how 95% of human suffering could be eliminated by simply allowing our current experience to be as it is.

Everyone has a pain-body, but some versions of it can be more difficult to investigate than others. Do you recognize the experiential qualities that trigger your particular pain-body? When it asserts itself, have you been able to observe the pain-body even as it takes hold of your thoughts? Have you ever been able to interrupt and dissolve the pain-body before it grips you? What techniques did you use to do so?

I've recently come across internal suffering again and have been feeling stuck, like no matter what I try, life just can't seem to get better.

Then I did a meditation and as those strong painful emotions came up, something clicked. I decided to just look at everything and say: "Ok. I love you." Including stress, outside problems, my own fear and sadness, people in my life that cause problems…

I've noticed a relief from emotional pain so far, like something has been unblocked. In resisting negativity I've been resisting life itself. Now that I'm practicing conscious acceptance, it feels like life is in flow again.

People accept their saddness when they realize it won't fade. That time will not heal their wounds. But this acceptance hardly ushers in happiness. You're simple aware.

Anyone start their spiritual journey with Eckhart…and then stray away from him to other teachers for years, and then years later come full circle back to eckhart and now everything he says just hits 10x harder and makes more sense? That's where I'm at.

I was wounded deeply in the heart this week of November 5th! It felt as if someone was gouging an open sore ! For six days the world was laid upside down! And a new pain body emerged.
But I remember what Eckhart said about identifying with anything of this world. And I saw that I had identified myself with something of this world. But as soon as I looked at it, the wound healed itself !
And I can say that — I do not identify myself with anything of this world !

@SonOfGodphotography says:

I built myself up from growing up lower middle class all the way to owning my own apartment rentals and living a good life where I was financially free and I traveled and even was one of the best photographers in Chicago for street photography. I had to leave Chicago and got rid of the apartments and ended up losing almost everything. I miss my lifestyle. I have depression and drug abuse now. I don’t wanna continue and I must be a sore loser because I will never have all that stuff againin that timeframe when I am young because I’m already in my 50s now. Cannot let it go

No Despair in the World: A Breslov Perspective
Rabbi Nachman of Breslov is renowned for his optimistic and uplifting teachings, one of which is the profound concept that there is no despair in the world at all. This idea, while seemingly paradoxical in the face of life's challenges, forms a cornerstone of Breslov philosophy.
The Illusion of Despair
According to Rabbi Nachman, despair is not a permanent condition but rather an illusion created by our limited perspective. When we feel overwhelmed by difficulties, it's easy to lose sight of the bigger picture and believe that our suffering is unending. However, this is a distortion of reality.
The Power of Faith and Hope
Breslov teaches that faith is the antidote to despair. By maintaining a steadfast belief in God's goodness and providence, even in the darkest moments, we can transcend the illusion of hopelessness. Hope, too, plays a crucial role. It's not merely a wishful thinking but a conscious choice to believe in a brighter future.
The Purpose of Suffering
Rabbi Nachman also emphasizes that suffering can be a catalyst for spiritual growth. When we face challenges, it's an opportunity to connect more deeply with God and to develop qualities such as patience, humility, and resilience.
The Role of Tzaddikim
Breslov places great importance on the role of tzaddikim (righteous individuals). It's believed that their prayers and blessings can uplift the spirits of others and help them overcome despair. By connecting with tzaddikim, either through their teachings or by seeking their prayers, we can tap into a source of divine energy and inspiration.
In essence, the Breslov concept of "no despair in the world at all" is a call to embrace faith, hope, and the transformative power of suffering. By doing so, we can break free from the illusion of despair and discover the true meaning of life.
