does anyone know, when he says "the final door," does he mean the jump from 999 to 1000? does that mean he reached 1000? i've read a couple different people calibrating dr hawkins himself at 952 shortly before his passing.

Well that "sidekick" is actually his wife. and he explains the muscle testing in a scientific way. Read or listen to what he says about it and you'll get a better understanding. Muscle testing causes too much commotion haha. He has also said something along the lines of regretting introducing it since many people don't understand it in the wrong manner. basically he knew people would go about it prematurely etc.

Maternalbanjo, that is the basis of all his research… the muscle testing. You will understand it if you read the Power of Now book where it explains that process. It's basically how he tests what he says to be true, so when he does it in lecture, he is aknowledging to the audience that he is committed to the truth and not just attached to what he says being true but is willing to continuously make sure the audience get's the truth. It's actually amazing. The sidekick is his wife btw.
