How can I be aware of my ego prior to it arising?

Eckhart explains that as you develop deeper Presence, the gap between an aggressive ego assertion and becoming aware of it will shorten. To strengthen our awareness of ego, he suggests practicing Presence in everyday situations so you can notice being taken over by the pain-body.

Boris Abbey says:

True awareness comes when one identifies and learns how to control triggers, recognizes a trigger has been intentionally triggered, and utilizes that event against the ones who sought unjustified harm.

Sue says:

I'm so triggered by how people don't want to know about the horrors of slaughterhouses and caged pigs, chickens. People are not aware of these atrocities to animals unless they are willing to look. I looked and it was like taking my blinders off. Many documentaries out there to show people where the meat comes from, but no one wants to look. A free documentary is 'Dominion'
It is hard to be peaceful when people will not give compassion to farmed animals, who are beautiful and gentle creatures who only want to be loved and treated kindly.
Look at the animals eyes, it is not a meal, it is a sentient and beautiful creature.

larutanrepuS says:

Ego makes us seek conflict and pain. Feels so much better in awareness and consciousness. How to shine the light on the ego sooner…that is the challenge. Eckhart is so centered-I love that.

Brent Crowe says:

I feel like when I look into the mirror (particularly when making eye contact with myself) I become self-aware of my own presence, is that even possible? and I am doing the same thing as if I was looking at a flower's presence? As oddly as it sounds, for me sometimes it even helps to look into the mirror and gaze at my own eyes and to remind myself of my own presence, which I suppose is a good thing hahah…

Peter Vlčko says:

This is however what can somebody notice and attack you more than once to make you angry.

Daniel Ginzburg says:

this is so powerful, our stories we tell ourselves truly do make up not only our internal world but even our external reality

Allen Williams says:

Fear<=> False Evidence Appearing Real . One we learn the importance of not having to live in "time" 100% of the time, then "anger" and it's seemingly universal partner, "fear" wont enslave mankind. The universe is the only true intelligence; not man. The universe is the only true doer; not man. The universe governs itself. It's all about change and Spiritual growth; but use "ego" wisely.

Anna Long says:

"never stop it by suppressing it" – YES. real mindfulness is about feeling your emotions as much as possible inside your body, without thoughts attached. Then it loses momentum by itself, as no thoughts are fuelling it. Ride the wave, as it were. I think that observing your emotions is way more useful than obsessing about the ego. As Eckhart says, it subsides when you see it.. don't fight it because it will just get stronger!

ian roberts says:
