Ram Dass (1931-2019) was an American spiritual teacher. In this powerful segment he talks about how when you view relationships based on your need, that relationship ends up further imprisoning you in the cycle of need and fulfillment. Rather, if you can somehow relate to the other person other than through that need, then your relationships can become a vehicle for freedom. This is what he calls the “Yoga of Relationship”.

These sorts of ideas always give me some tenseness, because I guess I am a little defensive of my individual personality. But I like that he makes a point to say, these individual personalities/vehicles have their role. But let us use them, and not allow them to use us. Don't throw away the intellect, instead inhabit it, but from a light, relaxed deeper self. This will take a lot of pondering to wrap my head around.
