In my hometown the pastor of the local church literally became a millionaire off of taking money from the poor to the point where he built a huge church in the countryside, bought 2 houses in our towns richest areas , and now owns half the neighborhood I live in because he built properties and is now doubling as a land lord. When I was a kid I remember the 2008 recession happening and my parents got layed off and we went to the pastor to ask for money to get storage space and a u-haul and after all the 100 dollar bills my parents gave in offerings every Sunday we thought that the church would help us. However the pastor said God helps people who helps themselves and left us to couch surf and have all of our shit put out to the curbside post eviction like we had Nothing left after that and would continue to have nothing for years to come due to the economy. To this day my family has never really recovered from that blow in 2008 but now nobody in my family goes to church or gives money to the said church. The worst part about this of this is that the pastor rents an empty house in the hood just so the congregation will think that he lives among the poor and is living just as humbly when he's swimming in cash.
